The Art Of Giving- 6 Ways to Give For A Happier Life

The Holiday season is here! First of all, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I spent two days cooking and watching my kids enjoy the family being together and it was glorious. Now, it is time to get ready for Christmas. The holidays have a way of bringing out the kindness in all of us. However, why do we wait until the holidays to give, to love and share positivity. There are studies that show that the more we give time, gratitude, money, and love, the happier and the better lives we live. So here are 6 ways to give for a happier life.

Gratitude

Gratitude is very under rated, yet very much necessary in our state of mind. The more you are grateful for what you currently have the less you will resent what you don’t. It brings you peace of mind that what have today is exactly what you need right now. So make sure you make time each day to acknowledge all the things you have. You can journal it, you can say in prayer, or by saying a simple thank you when someone does something for you. It will keep you in a positive attitude and allow you to live a happier life.

Time

Money and material things come and go. Many of us have seen the ups and down of that truth. However, time is something you can’t buy. We all get 24 hours in a day and we can’t go back in time. So what we do with our time is that much more valuable. Giving your loved ones your time is far more valuable than anything you could buy. I know work is important. I am sitting here working while my kids are out with their dad, so I understand the importance of getting things done. However, I definitely make sure I spend as much time with my kids as possible. Make sure you are setting enough time aside during the week for those that matter. Put it on your schedule if need be. This effort will go a long way, I promise.

Mentoring

Continuing on in the topic of time, giving someone your time to mentor them will help you live a happier life. In a previous blog I talked to you about the importance of the 33% rule. https://betteryouspace.com/2018/07/29/ten-habits-that-will-help-you-get-what-you-want-in-life/  Mentoring someone is something that will not only give to the mentee but it also provide you great value. Now, before you get caught up in the ” I am not qualified to be a mentor because I am not a CEO or VP of a company, I want you to understand that a mentor is a guide and adviser. That can mean guiding an advising a young adult or kids. In the past I have coached a soccer team of little five year olds and it honestly changed my life, it made me happier. Mentoring someone will make you feel good about yourself and change someone’s life. Never assume that the knowledge you have is not valuable to someone else. Volunteer at your local boys and girls club. Coach someone, provide guidance to someone in need.. There are many opportunities to mentor someone.

Money

There are many studies that try to decipher charity and motives to donate. However, if we keep it simple, it feels good! knowing you are helping someone in their time of need will provide you with a sense of accomplishment, your level of gratitude will raise, which will lead to a much happier life. You don’t have to wait until you are a millionaire to give. Give what you can today and give as often as you can. You can give at your local church, charity, or to your community. That feel good sensation of giving will help you live a happier life.

Leniency

Cut yourself and others some slack. I know productivity and doing things faster and better is a priority. However, this can lead us to a frustrating life. You are doing the best you can, if you know you are working hard and trying your best, not doing everything on your to do list should not ruin what you were able to accomplish. Understanding it is okay and that you will be okay will allow you to live a happier life. Now, if cutting yourself slack is important doing so for others is also important. We are not perfect, that’s what makes us human, don’t forget that. Breath and know everything will be okay.

Love

I know you all know this but love equals happiness. Share some love this holidays season and all year long. Love yourself and others by cutting yourselves slack, by helping those in need, and by being grateful. Remember, you can do this!
